Nestled on Langkawi’s northern coast, Pantai Tanjung Rhu captivates visitors with its untouched beauty. This serene beach boasts powdery white sands, translucent turquoise waters, and dramatic limestone karsts that frame the horizon. Fringed by casuarina trees, the shoreline offers a tranquil ambiance, perfect for solitude or romantic strolls. The shallow waters are ideal for swimming, while kayakers can glide through mangrove-fringed channels or explore hidden coves. As the sun dips, the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery hues, casting a golden glow over the landscape.

History

Once a quiet fishing village, Tanjung Rhu (meaning “Cape of Casuarina Trees”) earned its name from the dusk-lit skies that silhouette the dense casuarina groves. For generations, locals relied on the sea for livelihood, and remnants of this heritage linger in nearby villages. While tourism has gently shaped the area, the beach retains its rustic charm, balancing preservation with mindful development.

Operation Hours

The beach is accessible 24/7, though facilities like parking, kayak rentals, and boat tours operate from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. For safety and optimal enjoyment, visit during daylight hours. Sunset, around 7:30 PM, is a magical time to witness the sky’s spectacle.

Directions from Dayang Bay Resort

Dayang Bay Resort Langkawi is situated in the Kedawang area, southwest of Langkawi. To reach Pantai Tanjung Rhu, head northeast via Jalan Pantai Tengah and merge onto Jalan Padang Matsirat, the island’s main arterial road. Follow signs for Tanjung Rhu, passing the Langkawi International Airport. After approximately 18 kilometers, turn left onto Jalan Tanjung Rhu, which leads directly to the beach. The drive takes 30–35 minutes, winding through rural landscapes dotted with paddy fields and traditional villages. For navigation, use Google Maps or Waze with the pin “Tanjung Rhu Beach Langkawi” for accuracy.

Tanjung Rhu’s unique ecosystem supports mangroves and migratory birds, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. Nearby, the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park showcases ancient rock formations and eagle-feeding tours. Unlike busier beaches, Tanjung Rhu lacks commercialization, with only a few upscale resorts discreetly nestled along its fringe. Local boatmen offer island-hopping trips to limestone caves and sandbars. Despite its growing popularity, the beach remains refreshingly uncrowded, a testament to Langkawi’s commitment to sustainable tourism. A small parking fee (RM 5–10) applies, but beach access is free.
